Rob and Brian gave me a terrific opportunity in 2009 to start a third career – in private equity.
I’d worked with them before as Executive Vice President at Neiman Marcus and at Laura Mercier. In 2009, I joined the Castanea team on the Urban Decay investment and, in 2011, formally became an operating partner specializing in the beauty sector.
It was during my tenure at Neiman’s that I decided to leave the corporate world and become an entrepreneur. In 1996, I launched my own cosmetics company, Laura Mercier. There is no greater business thrill than founding your own company, creating your own products, and building your own culture.
I have had the privilege of working with four dynamic founders through Castanea – at Urban Decay, Drybar, First Aid Beauty, and Tatcha. My work alongside them includes helping build new product lines from scratch, developing long-term strategies, and identifying additional distribution channels.
I graduated from the University of Alabama and live in Houston where I am proud to be on the Board of Directors of the 2017 World Series Champion Houston Astros baseball team.
